Just a quick post to highlight a new app that CPS have released for Project 2013, this is the Task Auditor app and can be downloaded using the link below:

http://office.microsoft.com/en-gb/store/task-auditor-WA104172076.aspx

The app can be seen below:

image

The home page gives a description of the app but also contains a check box to allow the use of Cookies – if you don’t allow the use of Cookies then the configuration settings will not be available and some of the checks might not be 100% accurate.

After checking the check box to allow Cookies, clicking on a task update the app to show the results for the particular task:

image

At this point also notice there are three tabs, Task, Configure and Help. If you don’t allow Cookies the Configure and Help Tabs will not be visible. The Task Tab displays the checks / tests results for the selected task. The Configure Tab allows the user the enter duration settings and date format:

image

This is to allow correct calculations for a couple of the checks. These settings are saved and only have to be updated once / as required.

The Help Tab gives details / support for the Configure Tab:

image

The tests carried out will depend on the type of task selected, Milestone, Summary Task, Work Task etc. The images below show a summary task selected and then a normal work task selected:

Summary Task:

Hovering over the checks, a tooltip gives more information on the check:

Take a look, its free Smile

Create #ProjectServer 2010 #MSProject 2010 accounts with #PowerShell #PS2010 #SP2010 #MSOffice

Quite often system administrators want a way to automate tasks, creating the Project Server Project Professional  accounts is usually one of these tasks. This blog post shows an example of creating a Project Professional 2010 account.

The script can be downloaded from the Script Center following the link below:

http://gallery.technet.microsoft.com/scriptcenter/Create-Server-2010-dfb0fbba

When creating an account, a registry key is created here:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\14.0\MS Project\Profiles\<Profile Name>

image

After running the script, a new registry key will appear:

Script:

image

Before running the script you will need to update two variables, $accountName and $pwaURL with the correct values.

New Key after executing the script:

image

As you can see, the script only creates three string values (excluding the default), the rest get created when you launch Project Professional 2010 and connect to the new account:

New account:

Additional string values:

A simple solution for creating Project Professional 2010 accounts.

I recommend that this script is tested thoroughly on a test workstation before using within a production environment.

This script is just an example, use this script at your own risk. Remember to always backup the Registry before making any changes.

This script is probably a better approach to the Registry key export detailed in a post I wrote a while back:

Publish specified Projects in #ProjectServer using #PowerShell #MSProject #PS2010 #SP2010 #PS2013

There have been several requests for publishing projects listed in a text file, this follows on from my post / publish all projects script found below:

https://pwmather.wordpress.com/2012/05/31/updated-publish-all-projects-in-projectserver-using-powershell-msproject-ps2010-sp2010/

http://gallery.technet.microsoft.com/scriptcenter/Server-2010-Publish-all-45ba385b

****Update – this also works for Project Server 2013****

This script allows you to specify a list of projects in a text, then only those projects will be sent for publishing. For the purpose of this post I have a text file called projectstobepub.txt that contains a list of my test projects to be published:

image

The PowerShell script will need to be updated to reference the text file containing the list of projects that you wish to publish and also update the Project Server PWA URL. Comments have been added in the screen shot below to show what lines need to to be updated:

image

The script has my test PWA instance URL as highlighted below:

New-WebServiceProxy -uri “http://vm353/pwatest/_vti_bin/PSI/Project.asmx?wsdl” –useDefaultCredential

The strikethrough text will need to be updated with the correct URL for your environment.

The script can be downloaded from the Script Center following the link below:

http://gallery.technet.microsoft.com/scriptcenter/Server-2010-Publish-537857d8

Once the script has been executed, the projects listed in the text file will be sent for publishing.

The script can either be executed on demand or set on a schedule using Windows Tasks Scheduler. Execute the script with an account that has access to the projects listed in the text file.
